Colonial Office, Downing Street,
S.W.1.
10th August, 1940.
As Sydney Caine is on
leave I have opened your letter of the 9th instant. I can see no prima facie objection to your very generous suggestion that Fong Kong should put the accumulated profits of the Exchange Equalisation Fund at H.M.G.'s disposal. I am asking the Treasury for their views and hope that I shall be in a position to discuss the matter further with Gent and yourself next Tuesday.

Sir Geoffry Northcote, K.C.M.G.
